Roofs

New roofs, full re-roofs and roof repairs, with honest repair or replace advice.

Honest advice first: repair, recover or replace

Most roofing firms sell one thing, so every survey ends the same way. We are a construction company, which means an assessment with us can honestly end in a small repair, a partial recover, or a full re-roof, whichever the roof actually needs. We tell you which one you are looking at and why, in writing.

It also means the jobs a roofing-only firm has to walk away from are ours to finish. If stripping the covering exposes rotten timbers, a tired chimney or a valley that has been leaking for years, the same team carries on and deals with it, priced at rates agreed before work started.

Because we are a construction company rather than a roofing-only firm, an assessment can end in a repair, a partial recover or a full re-roof. We tell you which one the roof actually needs, and we can carry out the timber and structural work if the roof turns out to need it.

What the work covers

Roofs, in detail

Full re-roofs

Strip to the timbers, inspect the structure, new membrane, battens and covering, fixed to current standards.

Tile, slate and flat roofs

Concrete and clay tiles, natural slate, and felt, EPDM or GRP flat roof systems for garages and extensions.

Roof timber repair

Rafters, battens and wall plates inspected and repaired or replaced where damp or age has taken its toll.

Fascias, soffits and guttering

Often replaced while the scaffold is already up, which is the cheapest time to do it.

Chimneys and flashings

Repointing, rebuilding and lead work around chimneys, abutments and valleys.

Insulation at the same time

Loft insulation brought up to current standards while the roof is open, with the ventilation it needs.

Questions

Roofs questions, answered straight

How do I know if my roof needs replacing?

Most roofs people think need replacing need repairing, and the loft usually tells you more than the outside. Our guide on how to tell if your roof needs replacing covers what to look for; the free survey settles it properly.

Does a new roof add value to a house?

Rarely in the way an extension does. What it does is protect the price you were going to get and remove a reason for a buyer to renegotiate. We wrote an honest answer in does a new roof add value to your home.

What is the difference between a repair, a recover and a replacement?

A repair fixes localised failures. A recover strips and relays the covering on sound timbers. A replacement is needed when the structure itself has suffered. They are very different prices, and we tell you which one your roof actually needs.

How long does a re-roof take?

A typical house re-roof is measured in days rather than weeks, but size, access and weather all move it. The written quote comes with a programme so you know what to expect before work starts.
