Roofing on Stratford-upon-Avon housing
In Old Town and around the centre the housing is Georgian, Victorian and older, much of it in the conservation area and some of it listed. Roofs are slate or clay, the chimneys are tall and often unlined, and the valleys and flashings have usually had decades of patching. Consent for a change of material is a real question here and Stratford-on-Avon District Council is the authority to confirm it. Access is the other cost: narrow streets, parking restrictions and, in season, a town full of visitors, so scaffolding and deliveries have to be planned and priced rather than assumed.
On the modern estates at Bishopton, Tiddington and the newer developments around the edges, the roofs are concrete tile on trussed rafters and the work is conventional: a re-cover when the tiles and felt reach the end of their life, fascias and soffits, and the occasional garage flat roof. There is no consent question and no access problem, and the price reflects that. We survey both the same way, and on the older property the honest answer is often a repair to the valleys and flashings rather than a whole new roof.
What we are asked for here
- Slate and clay re-roofs and repairs on Old Town and centre property
- Valley, flashing and chimney repairs on period roofs
- Concrete tile re-covers on the modern estates

Had Marcus & the team remove my spray foam last week. They was very professional & left no mess. They replaced my old felt with a new membrane as it was so old & falling apart. I have recommended them to my neighbour. Good service all round.
Carter Langfold spent 5 days last week correcting a mess done by another Company in an attempt to remove spray foam from loft. The team led by Manager Marcus were brilliant throughout the week.
Very pleased with the professionalism & standard of work provided.
Questions
Roofing in Stratford-upon-Avon, answered straight
Do I need consent to re-roof in Stratford town centre?
For a like-for-like repair, usually not. For a change of covering, or on a listed building, assume yes until Stratford-on-Avon District Council confirms otherwise. We check before we quote.
Can you work around the parking and delivery restrictions?
Yes, and it is priced in. Scaffold permits, delivery windows and skip placement are all planned before the job starts, because in the centre of Stratford they are a real constraint in a way they are not on an estate.
Is it worth you coming out for a small repair?
Stratford is the far end of our area, so we take on larger roofing projects here as standard and will be straight with you if a small repair is not worth the travel. A quick photo often lets us tell you which it is.
