Extensions by Carter Langfold in Worcester

House Extensions in Worcester

We come to Worcester for the extensions that are worth the run, and we design the foundations and drainage for the ground they sit on.

Extensions on Worcester housing

On the postwar and modern housing at Warndon, Ronkswood and the newer estates, the rear kitchen extension and the side extension into the gap are conventional jobs: brick and block on foundations set by a trial hole, building control through Worcester City Council, the fees and inspections in the quote. Many single storey rear extensions fall within permitted development, subject to the size limits, and we confirm the position before design work starts. Ground near the rivers changes the foundation and drainage design, and that is settled at the survey rather than on the first morning of the dig.

In the conservation areas around the cathedral, Barbourne, St Johns and Battenhall, an extension needs an application, matched materials and a design that sits behind the house, and on a listed building it needs listed building consent as well. It is a longer road and we set it out honestly. Because Worcester is at the far end of our area we take on full extensions here rather than small works, and because one project lead runs every trade the job carries on if it uncovers old foundations, a drain or a change of ground.

Questions

Extensions in Worcester, answered straight

Do I need planning permission for an extension in Worcester?

On the estates, a single storey rear extension within the limits is often permitted development. In the conservation areas and on listed buildings, assume an application is needed. We confirm with Worcester City Council before anything is drawn.

Does the river change the foundations?

Near it, yes. A high water table and softer ground can mean deeper or reinforced foundations and a different drainage design. A trial hole at the survey settles it and it is priced before we start.

Do you take on smaller extensions in Worcester?

It is the edge of our area, so we take on full extensions here as standard and will be honest if a very small job is not worth the travel.
